TB bacterium uses sugar coat to become attractive to lung cells

TuberculosisWashington, September 30: Ohio State University researchers have found that the most common strain of TB bacteria, Mycobacterium tuberculosis, has learnt to coat itself with a sugar called mannose, which makes it attractive to cells in the lungs.

Consequently, say the researchers, the lung cells absorb the TB bacteria, giving the infecting bacteria a place to live for the long term.
